Wingswept Quail Preserve is a Private Quail Hunting Preserve and is 500 acres of some of the best game hunting land available.

We are located 15 minutes from the Golden Isles of Georgia which includes Brunswick, St. Simons Island, Sea Island and Jekyll Island and approximately 45 minutes from the Jacksonville International Airport.
Robbie’s bird hunting career began as a young boy shooting marsh hens in the marshes of Coastal Georgia and wood ducks in the pristine cypress swamps in the area.  As the years passed, Robbie was blessed with opportunities to hunt pheasants in Iowa, ducks and geese in Arkansas, guinea fowl in Botswana, doves and perdiz in South America and francolin in South Africa. Still today he says Nothing will ever top a brace of tuned Llewellin Setters on point and the thunder of the covey rise on a bright, crisp south Georgia morning”.

His first quail hunting experience left him with an immediate passion for hunting game birds over pointing dogs. He was so mesmerized by the work of the dogs and the flush that he didn’t shoot the quail.  His hunting buddies were not overly impressed with him but had great fun with him back at the lodge around the lunchtime spread.

Of course, once he experienced good pointing dogs, he had to learn to train. Consequently, Robbie has owned and trained his own dogs since 2001. He has hunted over and trained many different types of dogs. His true favor and passion is the Llewellin Setter. He says “I have hunted over many, many fine breeds but in my opinion the most personable, easiest to train and most intelligent pointing dog is the Llewellin”.

Wingswept Quail Preserve is located on a portion of the property comprising Berrie Plantation, a traditional southern plantation dating back to the early 1800’s. As time went by, the plantation was slowly converted to individual farms and slash pine plantations. The preserve is located on one of the few remaining tracts from the original acreage.

Robbie Cheek, owner and a descendant of the Berrie family, has strived to preserve the property for the enjoyment of current and future generations.  Having served as a deer, hog and turkey hunting club from the 1960’s until 2000, the property has been continuously maintained to preserve the natural environment and game habitat. As avid bird hunters and lovers of Llewellin Setters, Robbie and his brother, Tim, began transforming the property into quail and dove habitat in 2000 and continue to improve the property with every passing year.
